Sun vs. Snow

Oceanside, CA 11.15.09 3pm

Red River, NM 11.15.09  4pm

This afternoon I sit comfortably in Oceanside (north San Diego county) while it snows and prepares for ski season in Red River, NM.

Red River is a beautiful alpine town on the Enchanted Circle, about 40 miles north east of Taos and approx. 2000 ft higher in elevation.

Shot from Taos Plaza - must be cold because it's almost 4 pm in this picture and there's still snow on the roof of the gazebo.

Am I crazy...sitting here in the warmth and sun of southern CA wishing I was in Taos?

Yes, you're a little bit crazy but I understand. Is January a good time to visit Taos?

January in Taos? Only if you love snow! The very best time is October. There's nothing like fall in northern NM.
