Watercolor Barn

This is an older watercolor painting from my portfolio. I don't have any new paintings ready for posting (2 wet ones in my studio [aka garage]). I was feeling stressed that I hadn't posted anything new in awhile so I thought I'd fill in the lull with an older painting or two.

I admire artists like Carol Marine who find a way to paint everyday regardless of their life demands. It's my goal to find that drive and motivation. I use my job as an excuse, afterall it's hard when you've been at the office all day and then have to come home and cook dinner, etc. Maybe some of these excuses are familiar to you too. On the weekends I find myself with family visits and other obligations. When you work and only have two days off to take care of all the demands of your life it does get hard to squeeze in time for painting and sometimes I feel like I'm cheating someone or something or being selfish if I take a few hours for painting. But, I'm getting past that and I'm happy to report that I'm doing my best to paint, at least on the weekends. I've got a couple of larger paintings 30"x40" and 18"x24" (oil) that are wet from yesterday's outing. The biggest one is a "blow-up" of the San Francisco de Asis church that is posted below. I thought it would be relative easy to paint the same painting on a larger scale but it is proving to be more difficult than I'd imagined. Seems strange to me - it should be easy to paint the same thing, just bigger - but somehow it's not as easy as it sounds. I've got to give that more thought and figure it out.

I'm also happy to report that we survived the fires here in San Diego county. We were never in any danger ourselves but my parents were evacuated from their home. Thankfully they are ok, their home is ok - survived both the fires and looters. So that is good news and we're all great and getting on with our lives.
